Applied Ethics is one field within the larger discipline of ethics. It is primarily concerned with the practical and real-life ethical questions that face the fields of biology, medicine, business and technology. On the one hand, applied ethics requires a command of the ethical traditions, but on the other hand, it requires an understanding of the relationship between politics and ethics as well as law and ethics. This process has a two-fold role for ethics as a self-standing discipline. First, the practical application of ethical principles, norms and methods of scholarship deepens our understanding of them. And second, it makes it possible to raise and manage the ethical questions in the fields of our academic partners.
